Miss Bikini Ireland - the controversial topless shoot in Harcourt St Dublin
In the last 2 days, all the Irish media brought to our attention how a shoot for Miss Bikini Ireland on Harcourt Street Dublin turned out tacky and tricking people in thinking all this was done for Breast Cancer Awarness.
Ondine Magazine got some insights in all of this and how this shoot turned out so wrong in the eyes of the readers.
It all started from social media / FaceBook sharing a so called poster showing that 13th of October is free the nipples day, to support the Breast Cancer awarness.
We don't understand how this poster can support breast cancer, as there is no help for the women in need, women who struggle every day with breats cancer from this. How can a healthy woman can support the cause by showing her breast? Donating money towards the cause will.
The idea of the shoot came from a photographer which will not be named here, through VIP Ireland, who brought the idea to the organizers of Miss Bikini Ireland to ask the girls if they want to participate in the shoot to raise awarness for Breast Cancer. We gather a few testimonials from some of the models ivolved in the shoot.
The current Miss Bikini Ireland title holder Judy Fitzgerald: "It is breast cancer awareness month and our Miss Bikini Ireland shoot in support of the 13th of October no bra campaign has gone viral both nationally and internationally! Its a massive success!! It was done to raise awareness and that is exactly what it did! It made people more aware that it was breast cancer awareness month and of the 13th of October no bra campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer. I am a qualified nurse who sees first hand the effects of cancer on individuals and their family's. The models who took part in the shoot also had family members and friends who had experienced cancer. The idea came about when we were showed the pic by the Photographer for the 13th of October and were happy to do it as we were all confident in our bodies! It has got people talking so it is raising awareness for people to check themselves for Brest cancer: I'm surprised at how negative some people can be."
Kerrie O'Brien who appeared today on Ireland AM , said:
"We done it for a really good cause and did not mean to offend anybody by this, we we're been asked to do this to raise awareness for breast cancer and had a choice to do it so we thought why not because its for such a good cause we did not set out to harm anybody we thought we were doing a good thing."
Ana Pavel, the girl in the controversial shoot where someone fell from her bike said:
"It was just an innocent act to raise breast cancer awareness, and not to offend anybody, it does take a lot of courage and confidence to do that in public, so well done to all the girls!
Anyone is entitled to their own opinion, but a lot of criticism has formed towards the girls and towards my photo which is horrifying, but in this industry you need to have thick skin, it was all done for a good cause, and fair play to all the girls for having the confidence and will power to do it!"
"I 100% support the decision for our shoot it was to support breast cancer awareness and i feel empower the womans body i see no harm in it.if it was a loada men the views would be different.each woman chose to be in it and what way to be pictured whether individually or only in the group.i have had family and friends fighting cancer and ill support anything to create awareness.the comments and bitterness has taken the point of it all which is breast check today keep positive" Hazel Kiely
"Too many online critics about "free the tat" day shoot --which was done to spread awareness of cancer, but it seems that within the online feuds "cancer awareness " is being repeatedly mentioned ---so in other words I have to say that the message has been passed out. Its breast cancer month ! Posing topless for the cause to raise awareness, is also supporting the movement and not "an insult" as some dissed it". Jenifer Williams
We don't know how this is different from any other woman posting an implied topless photo of her showing breast cancer awarness, but hey ! it's a free world.
