Alexandra Scavo - interview
My name is Alexandra Marie and I'm 17 years old and I have a clothing line called Alexandra Marie. I have been designing for about 2 1/2 years and this is truly my passion. Ever since I was little I have been wanting to design clothes and be inspired by different things. I also model and do make up for different events such as weddings, fashion shows etc. some people that I've worked with is a seamstress and many event planners for fashion shows. They have all been amazing and what they do and I am very happy I got the chance to work with them. Designing is it something that takes a lot of hard work lots of time and lots of money. If you're going to be in this industry, you're going to have to be determined and committed to what you want. Because it is a very hard place to get your name out there and people will try to bring you down. But as long as you stay humble and determined you can do whatever you want.
Why did you decide to become a fashion designer? I decided to become a fashion designer because I love the art of fashion and I love to design things that come from my heart and mind and sharing it with other people. What is your favourite part about being a fashion designer? My favourite part about being a fashion designer is that I can create whatever I want to and call it my own. It’s a really amazing experience. What are your inspirations for the designs you create? My inspirations are definitely the places I’ve been to such as Hawaii, New Mexico, and just the things that come to my mind. I’ve seen a lot of unique designs in my time and I love to experiment.
How do you select the materials you use? I select all my material in Los Angeles and I always choose my material wisely. You always have to remember what’s in style and what’s not. What was the first item you created? The first item I created was a leather pant. I love the colour black and I love leather. How do you describe your fashions and style? My style would definitely be very chic. I think I will always have an ever changing style but I will always stay chic and glamorized. How do you stay up to date with fashion? I stay up to date with fashion by following other big fashion designers and media as well as fashion magazines. I’m always learning something new.
Tell me the good and the bad at being a fashion designer. I can name a lot of bad things about being in this industry, such as everyone coming at you in a negative way. You’re going to have haters and you’re going to have competition, but I think the best thing about being a fashion designer would be getting to create your very own style and give it to the world and learning new and exciting things every day. Where do you see yourself in the future? I see myself in the future being a high end big fashion designer meeting celebrities and other big fashion designers. Getting to know their take on fashion and this industry is very exciting to me. I plan and am determined to be in a big brand store and being very successful throughout my career.
