Sharon Tuckers Style Secrets

Happy New year, welcome 2015. Hope you all had a very festive and enjoyable Christmas. Welcome to my new column, each issue I will sharing with you all my source of inspiration and all things fashion and beauty related all the latest tips on trends and celebrity style, and keeping you up to date with fashion news, who wore what and where to find the best buys. But today I am focusing on New year resolutions and the many delicious sales around.

So many people begin scrambling to list all the things they’re going to do to make 2015 their best year ever. Summer will soon be here and that sun holiday will be calling, so time to get mentally and physically ready. Despite the high hopes and good intentions, however, most people fail to turn their New Year’s resolutions into reality. Change just one or two things, exercise more, quit smoking or eating healthy. The statistics on the chances you’ll maintain change are fairly dismal. Most studies show resolutions begin to drop off after a week and only about 40% of those who made resolutions actually stick to their goals. If you’ve encountered difficulties following through with your goals, resolve to make 2015 different. If you want to fit into those jeans for once and for all it's time to do something about it. Here are some of my own tips to think about;

1) Almost every behavioural change involves at least one or two setbacks. Whether it’s picking up a cigarette or skipping a few workouts at the gym, most people backslide occasionally. But don't fret, the way you respond to those setbacks, however, is what determines the likelihood of reaching your goals. Involve some friends in your exercise, go to classes together or start up a walking club.

2) If you struggle with self-doubt, write down all the evidence that suggests you’ll be able to reach your goal. Read that list daily to affirm your strengths and reduce your negative thinking. Stick it to the fridge or on your desk at work. I keep mine on my phone.

3) No matter what your goals are, building mental strength will help you reach them. Just like physical strength requires ongoing exercise, so does mental strength. Commit to building your mental muscle by conducting daily exercises that will help you get stronger. Increasing your mental strength will help you follow through with your goals, even as your motivation declines – which, sadly for many people, is mid-January.

4) It may help to see a list of items on paper to keep your motivation strong. Develop this list over time, and ask others to contribute to it. Keep your list with you and refer to it when you need help keeping your resolve. Remember be realistic. I remember a friend of mine making a list, and it got longer as the days went on and she never stuck to it.

5) Don’t keep your resolution a secret. Tell friends and family members who will be there to support your resolve to change yourself for the better or improve your health. The best-case scenario is to find a buddy who shares your New Year’s resolution and motivate each other. So you can't blame someone else if they turn up on your door step with a Chinese and a bottle of wine.

If you are determined to commit to your resolutions, and start seeing result, do not forget to reward yourself, and I’m not talking about a nip to the chippy, maybe some new makeup, trip to the sales or a pamper treat in your local spa.

My native city of Limerick is well known for its fashionable stores and boutiques dotted around the city and outskirts. So having recently traipsing around from shop to shop laden down with every coloured pretty bag from high street stores and feeling pleasantly chuffed with my newly purchased bargains, when I saw my credit card bill I was pleasantly surprised! I picked up some new jumpers in Pamela Scott’s, I love their sizes and their staff is very helpful even if they are under pressure. Some more favorite stores of mine are Lady Penelope in Adare Co. Limerick and Ballina Killaloe. If you are curvaceous, this boutique caters from sizes 12-26. And one of the finest boutiques in Limerick “Gretta Gibbs” situated on Catherine Street in the heart of Limerick city is laden with stunning outfits to suit every occasion. “Aimee’s” is a good find too on Cecil Street, picked up some quality tops, great selection in this store. I also popped into my usual favourites; Penney’s, Dunnes and River Island. My favourite treasure trove is No.15 “Le Masion De Curio” just off Thomas Street. This little Aladdin’s cave had every accessory known to woman, from handbags, to the most exquisite jewellery and all at affordable prices too. They also hire out ladies outfits and faux furs too. And ladies one tip, if you are looking for the special hat for a wedding in 2015 you must visit “Antoinette O’Connell’s” in Foxes Bow off Thomas Street also. Antoinette designs her own fabulous hats that you can be guaranteed not to be seen on anyone else.

Everyone loves the sales, especially those 75% off sales! Here is how to shop and get the best deal on whatever you buy. Plan your day, leave your house early, I find everything is in order when I go into a shop first thing. “The early bird catches the worm” Don’t buy items because they are on sale, it’s cheaper for you if you don’t buy them. Always check the stores exchange policy and read their terms and conditions (T&C applies). Each store is different and won’t offer refunds on sale items so always ask the cashier when purchasing. It’s best to try on, yes I know the queues go on for days but remember some sizes are from difference countries and can vary. So try before you buy. Sometimes it’s good to bring a good friend too as they will give you an honest opinion. No one wants to look like belong in a circus.

Or if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of it all, and can’t be bothered with the massive queues go online, and shop in the comfort of your own sofa. Whichever you choose, enjoy the experience and grab some bargains while the sales last. So on that thought I would like wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year for 2015.
